What we help couples & families with
These are some of the things couples and families most often bring to us. You don't need to be in crisis to reach out, and if what you're facing isn't listed here, you're just as welcome.

Questions couples & families often ask
Something else on your mind? Our FAQ covers much more, and our intake team is always happy to talk it through.
Do we both need to come to every session?
Usually, yes. Couples therapy works best with both of you in the room. Early on, your clinician may also meet with each of you once on your own, to understand each person's side of the story.
My partner isn't sure about therapy. Can I start on my own?
Yes. Many people begin on their own, and that alone can change how things feel at home. If your partner decides to join later, your clinician will help you decide whether to continue together or find a couples therapist for you both.
Will our therapist take sides?
No. Your therapist is there for the relationship, not to decide who's right. Each of you will have room to be heard, and your clinician will help you understand each other's point of view.
Who can join family therapy?
Whoever is part of the story: parents, children, partners, grandparents or others who share your home. Your clinician will help you decide who to invite and when, and some sessions may include only part of the family.
Can sessions be in Mandarin or Cantonese?
Yes. Many of our clinicians speak Mandarin, and some speak Cantonese, Korean or Spanish. In families where different generations speak different languages, sessions can move between languages so everyone can take part.
Can we have couples therapy online?
Yes. Online sessions work well for many couples and families, whether you join from the same room or from different places. Each of you needs to be in a state where your clinician is licensed at the time of each session.
Will insurance cover couples or family therapy?
It depends on your plan. Insurance often covers family sessions that are part of one family member's treatment, but many plans don't cover couples therapy on its own. It's worth asking your insurer what's covered before your first session; our intake team can tell you what to ask and explain our fees clearly. FSA and HSA cards are accepted.
