Get Care · Telehealth
Therapy online, from wherever you feel at ease.
Some weeks, getting to an office is one thing too many. With telehealth, you meet your clinician by secure video from home, from work, or wherever you can talk privately, and the care is the same care you'd get in person.
Our clinicians see clients online in every state where they're licensed, in English, Chinese and more. You can also mix online and office visits, whatever suits your week.

Find a clinician licensed where you are
You can meet online with any of our clinicians who is licensed in the state you're in at the time of your session. Choose your state on the map to see who's available.
Don't see your state? Our psychologists can also see clients in many states through PSYPACT, and some clinicians offer coaching wherever you live. Ask our care team
Getting ready for an online session
A little setup goes a long way. Here's what helps your session feel as easy and private as being in the room together.
A private space
Somewhere you won't be overheard, so you can speak freely. A room with the door closed is ideal.
A device with a camera
A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone. Headphones help keep things private.
A steady connection
Wi-Fi or a strong mobile signal. If you can, close other apps that use the internet.
Your video link
It arrives by email 48 hours and again 10 minutes before each session, so keep appointment reminders switched on. Some clinicians who work through Headway send it from Headway.
The right state
You'll need to be in a state where your clinician is licensed during each session. If you'll be traveling, let them know ahead of time.
A few minutes early
Join a little before your time to check your sound and camera. Trouble joining? Call or text (650) 434-2563.
Questions about telehealth
Something else on your mind? Our FAQ covers much more, and our care team is always happy to talk it through.
Is online therapy as helpful as meeting in person?
For many people, yes. Research has found that therapy by video works about as well as meeting in person for many common concerns, such as anxiety and depression. Some people simply prefer one or the other, and you can switch or mix the two with your clinician.
Is it private and secure?
Yes. Sessions run through SimplePractice, our secure, HIPAA-compliant client system, the same one that holds your forms and appointments. On your side, choose a private space and avoid shared or public computers.
I'll be traveling. Can I still have my session?
Within the U.S., yes, as long as you're in a state where your clinician is licensed at the time of the session. Let your clinician know your plans ahead of time. Sessions from outside the U.S. usually aren't possible for therapy, though some clinicians offer coaching instead.
I don't live in California or New York. Can I meet online?
Often, yes. Choose your state above to see who's licensed there. Our psychologists can also see clients in states that are part of PSYPACT. If no one is licensed where you are, some clinicians offer coaching by video: it works on the same things, but it can't include a diagnosis, isn't covered by insurance, and isn't suitable if you're at high risk.
Can I see a psychiatrist online?
Yes, if you're in California, where our psychiatrist is currently licensed. The first visit is a full evaluation, and follow-ups check how a medication is working. See a psychiatrist
Can psychological testing be done online?
Sometimes. We offer secure online assessments for eligible clients in California and New York, and fertility evaluations can be done by video. Some tests, such as IQ testing, are always done in person. Psychological testing
Can I switch between online and in person?
Yes. Many clients mix the two, for example meeting in person at first and online after, or coming in when they can and joining by video on busier weeks. Just talk it through with your clinician. Our offices
What if I'm in crisis?
We're an outpatient practice and can't respond to emergencies. If you're in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For support any time, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
